They are tall enough to ensure that the lidar sensor will pick them up and reduce the chance of bashing against them, and long enough that there is no longer a big enough gap for a typical vacuum to try and squeeze between them. They also have a wide bottom mounting point to create a stable triangular base, to stop the whole thing simply being pushed and rotated around the chair leg if there is a collision.
